LionHeart provides a ROBUST, PRACTICAL CONTEXT for Apprentices’ to explore and learn about the CRITICAL LINKAGES which exist between THEIR LEARNING and THEIR OWN WORK BASED ENVIRONMENTS, in tackling a range of KEY TECHNICAL BUSINESS DICIPLINES to develop CORE INTRAPRENEURIAL, EMPOLYABILITY & LIFE SKILLS such as:

LionHeart has been at the forefront of STUDENT ENRICHMENT EDUCATION in terms of the critical aspects of EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS and WORK RELATED LEARNING for 17 years.

In recent years, Programmes have been designed and delivered embracing Learners within a Further Education environment, including FULL TIME LEARNERS, and also customised programmes for APPRENTICES studying at College to complete VOCATIONAL COURSES in their chosen specialism, while currently in Employment.

LionHeart has worked in partnership with FE Colleges during NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK to deliver BUSINESS / INTRAPRENEURIAL PROGRAMMES to complement the Vocational courses the College provides to Learners, thereby adding SIGNIFICANT ADDED VALUE, in Learners chosen Vocational Qualification.

COLLEGIATE LIONHEART: FE Student Programme & Apprentices Programme

PROVIDES the Learner with an in-depth, highly practical understanding of ‘Business’, its key Disciplines and Functions and their purpose and interdependency
EXPANDS the Learner’s Communication and Social Skills through intensive team working, task specialisation and delivery deadline management
EXPOSES the Learner to the necessary business disciplines and techniques to enable a student to take forward a “Start Up” opportunity and or add tangible value to existing Employer (who better than the people employed within a business to leverage existing skills in terms of Product or Geographic Development, and to explore New Markets for existing skills within the Business environment).
ENHANCES the Learner’s Employability Skills in their chosen field of study
ADVANCES the Learner’s personal development, behaviour and welfare, thereby developing them as positive individuals, who can contribute positively in society and in the workplace
FULFILS THE GOVERNMENT AGENDA on EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS in relation to the COMMON INSPECTION FRAMEWORK REQUIREMENTS (CIF) in terms of:
- Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare of Learners
- Self Awareness and Understanding of how to be a successful Student, and make a valuable contribution as a member of the Workforce
- Making informed choices about the next stage of education, employment, self-employment or training from independent careers advice and guidance
- Gaining an understanding of all aspects of business and learning how to run a successful business

DIFFERENTIATES the College, by providing Learners with clear ‘Added Value’ to the Vocational Course being studied by them

OPTIMISES use of Staff time, as College staff supervision is not required for delivery of the Programme, and is managed in fully by LionHeart professional training personnel

SUPPORTS overall Student Retention, particularly as a ‘New Year’ incentive for returning Learners
IMPLEMENTS delivery of core ‘Employability Skills; rigorously examined during the roll-out of the Challenge

“At Apprentices LionHeart, we learned the skills of consultation, working as a team, using opinions constructively and working alongside many new people. We are a group of diverse people from different backgrounds, ages and cultures. Each individual has chosen a task that best suits their skill set, and as a group we are working together towards the same goal. Each individual has listened to advice and information, and taken it on board. The most useful part was looking at different aspects of a business from idea conception, finance, funding, manufacturing and delivery. It was a sudden realisation for some members of the group and a refresher for others of the commitment and planning required to start a new business from conception right through to turning a profit. Having an opportunity to see and experience what it is like to develop an idea and create it into a business plan will help all of us when going on in our careers and in our companies, as we now have the knowledge of how everything comes together, and can apply it outside of the Challenge and in our own work places”

“The Apprenticeship LionHeart Challenge provides the Apprentices with the opportunity to step outside their own vocational specialism and experience the whole ‘Cradle to the Grave’ business process. Quite often in business, individuals are pigeon holed as a particular specialist and may spend their whole working life without ever appreciating, for example, design or marketing. LionHeart gives the Apprentices an insight into what it takes to successfully take a project from a design concept to a successful business. “LionHeart has been critical for 2 reasons, firstly it challenged our Apprentices to engage in a range of business activities, with which they have very little familiarity, and in doing so LionHeart has helped to encourage and showcase a range of highly valuable skills and attitudes in our Apprentices, which they can take back to their current employers. It gives a fresh insight and a different perspective of the businesses they are actually already operating within.

LionHeart is particularly valuable for us as a College, as we and the Government have identified, especially in recessionary times, that starting your own business is a real opportunity. Many of our Students in areas like hairdressing and construction for example, will likely go on to eventually become self employed. In doing so, many will have the technical skills to cut hair or build a wall, but they do not have the supporting business acumen and so often, they can struggle, and sometimes entrepreneurial spirit can be crushed, because they see the barriers rather than the opportunities.

Today has shown them the opportunities that are out there for them, and also given them an insight into how to prepare a real Business Plan”.
